Many times we find that our clients are confused on where to spend their money. We work in a creative industry that allows so much room for flexibility when budget is concerned. But with all budgets, large or small we are convinced that you need to have 3 main area where you should spend your money on your wedding.

ONE - Your bouquet

Sorry gentleman you are being left out of this one, unless you are wanting to cary a bouquet too. This is an important one that I have seen left out. Someone said not too long ago that what’s the point of splurging on a bouquet when they would only be holding it going down the aisle for a couple minutes.

EEK! Where do I begin? Let’s just list off all the monumental shots that your amazing photographer will capture that will have your bouquet. Walking down the aisle with your loved one as you go to meet your partner down the aisle. Your father, uncle, mother, that special person that means the world to you will be walking you down that aisle and that moment will be captured in your memories for a life time.

When you just got done getting married and now walking down the aisle with your life partner. That bouquet is the perfect decor piece. Family, bridal party, your portrait, couple’s portrait, bridesmaids shots, etc all these pics that we so fondly look back on, all have your bouquet. Trust me on this one, you want one and you must hire someone that makes fabulous bouquets.

TWO- Head Table

This is it, once in a life time. (I couldn’t say that with a bouquet as we, in The South, take bridals, so many times our brides does cary a bouquet more than once) But your head table… this is it. The one time that you get to indulge yourself and your immediate family and bridal party with an amazing, over the top experience.

It creates an anchoring spot for the room and it allows you to sit in a moment where all the most abundant florals and decor will be placed.

And let’s face it, the photographer is not capturing every singe table. They will walk into the room and capture the table that has the most decor, where all the details are centrally located.

THREE - Dance Floor

Either creating a hanging installation or a band front. We suggest having this as one of your main focal points. This is where your first dance will be, your father daughter dance and all those fun, gushy speeches will be held. It is the main gathering location for the rest of the evening. Do not leave this are left out.

We have created band fronts, hanging installations and even added 4 pedestals around each side of the dance floor to help create an intimate area where all images are captured. Allow us to be creative and make something that will be captured and remembered for a life time.

is this weird?

Something super odd about myself I must confess. I look back at the work we do and love it more once I have had some time to review. I just looked back on a wedding we did a year ago and I absolutely love it. On the day I thought we produced good work, but I could not get out of my head about a couple things I though we could do better.

As a creative entrepreneur I have to say that I am incredibly hard on myself. I love what I do, but there isn’t a time I don’t think we could have done it better. Not that everyone didn’t do an amazing job and that the client wasn’t super happy. (And that is what is most important!) But that I can improve.

One random thing I got hung up on was during set up was that I didn’t plan for the floral chandeliers needing to fit through the door. Sounds so absurd, but you guys…. they wouldn’t fit through ANY of the front doors. We had to truck them through the whole entire back end of the country club, roughly two city blocks. Ok, maybe just one, but when you have 4 floral chandeliers it started to feel like a stinking marathon.

That happened Friday as we got access a day early. From that moment forward I could not get that out of my head. I began to have a pity party in my head and it would not go away. I lost sleep, and set up on Saturday feeling like I let my team down.

A year later I have perspective, learned lessons, and can totally appreciate the hard work and pieces of flower art we created for our amazing clients.

I never received professional pics, so please excuse the lack of quality. But sometimes we have to still share what we’ve created no matter the quality of images, right? Otherwise how is everyone going to see what we can make happen for you on your special day? Can I get an Amen?!

flower bouquets: they are important ya'll

While many people might sell you on a simple bouquet. Splurge, this is the only time you will ever cary your dream bouquet. I can promise that it will be completely, totally, worth it!!!

I have heard designers mention that they don’t focus on the bouquet because you only cary it for several minutes down the aisle. Sure, they are correct. But what about the images that get captured that last a life time. Who doesn’t want these dreamy, artistic images of their girls and their new hubby.

There is so much artistic talent goes into creating one of these beauties, ok I am tooting my own horn. But seriously, we were not able to make this year one, two or three of learning design. It is not easy and therefor should have a moment in the spot light.

And for the record, we have had some stunning bridal bouquets that are 1/2 this size. Size does not matter in the bouquet world. Quality flowers, shape and design is where the magic happens. Make sure to allow a healthy budget for those specialty blooms. Our favorites? Garden roses, peonies, spray roses, lisianthus, and ranunculus to name a few.

And let us not forget, the photographer. It is important ya’ll!! These images you see were perfectly captured by Josh & Dana Fernandez. And shall we not forget, the hard work of Mallory at Two Be Wed.

Is it just me, or can we agree that these images would not look the same without these flowers! I might be biased, so you decide…

the french chateau

The owners of Houston Oaks Country Club brought this gorgeous chateau from Europe. How could it not be one of our all time favorite locations to create a wedding?

This ethereal, dreamy location has everything you could want to celebrate such an important date. The chapel is surrounded by a lake and large old oaks. It is simply as magical as it gets.

Every detail was thought of and the venue is impeccably maintained. The bride and groom suites are to die for and sets the tone for the rest of the wedding. Here’s a wedding we created that we are so excited to share photographed by Silhouette Studios and planned by Alyssa Meeks Events.

we aren't the right fit for everyone, but i hope we are the right fit for you

It is such an easy statement to say and I wholeheartedly believe that, we aren’t the right fit for everyone. But the day in and day out of that statement is so much harder than I thought it would be. After I meet with you, I literally started envisioning us creating the flowers for your special day. I day dreamed of the flowers, the textures, the new vases we would source. The excitement to tell my employees that we would be working at the venue you booked, with your photographer, with your family.

My passion is what built this business.

There were no previous owners, current owners who assist, parents money, partners, investors etc. JUST ME.

Yes of course I have some of the most amazing employees that have ever existed. But I still answer every email, every inquiry with the same passion and excitement that I did this first day I started this. And I have been compelled to let everyone know.

I want you to know that your event means so much to me. It means you saw our hard work, all the years, all the passion filled moments. You took the time to reach out and explore the possibility of working together, and that makes my heart explode with joy.

And for that, I thank you.

I wish we were perfect for everyone, that I could drive to your venue that is an hour away, book your Christmas event, or take on another event on an already booked date. But we decided to make this a place of long term passion. Where we create from a place of deep love and understanding of the art of flowers and event design. Of 13 years of perfecting, learning and understanding what elements create a perfect event and to 13 more. We only take on what we are 100% sure we can do, and do correctly.

Thank you for challenging us and making us the designers we are today. Here’s to a fun 2019 season.

getting inspired through travel

Maria-Maxit-Chris-Ellermann-Paris-Eiffle-Tower.png

We had to get away. Going on three months straight with out a day off can have its toll on you. The grind can own you. It’s bizarre, but it can get addicting.

To step away can be scary at times as business ownership is very demanding. And at times we might make it feel more demanding than it is when we are feeling overwhelmed. What I have realized this happens more often when we don’t take time off.

It is so rare that we get weeks without weddings, particularly this past year, that sneaking a last minute trip was the only way we could make it happen.

So why not Paris. It had been on my list for a while and couldn’t believe I had made it this far without going. So Chris, my fiance, surprised me with the idea and 7 days before we jumped on the airplane, we got on our computers and booked the trip.

Spontaneity is one of my love languages. I feel the need to make things happen when they are not planned helps keep me young and excited about the endless possibilities of life.

Versaille-Maxit-Photographer-Trees.png

I brought my camera and only took it out on some adventures. I can get all consumed with taking pics and not living in that particular moment that I need to edit the times I bring her. Here are some of the pics that I had to share with you, and only hope you can enjoy them as much as I did.

The ones posted are some from around Paris, and mostly on a day trip we took to Versailles.

we can't do it alone: having a in-house team and vendor team that rocks, makes a difference

Maxit-Room-Shot-Wedding-Flowers-The-Revaire.png

This past weekend, not different than most, reminded me the value of team work. Not only with my team at the studio but the team at the venue. To feel supported, cared for and thought of during the setup from the venue is something that has been elevated by The Revaire. Their team not only thought about how to make all the vendors have an easy load in and load out, they thought of how to keep them safe.

Maxit-Bar-Wedding-Flowers-Installation-Designer.png

They supply scissor lifts, ladders, easy load in, overnight storage of supplies, set ups starting days before, and breakdown on Monday mornings. But more importantly you feel like you are part of the team. These items and flexibility is what makes each event go smoothly, and feel less rushed.

Breaking down an event on Monday allows us to stay off the roads in the middle of the night. Breaking down an event might be one of the most hazardous elements of our job. My team is tired and have been working 12hr days since Monday morning to make it all come together. By Saturday night everyone is EXHAUSTED!!! Not only are we not at our very best, but lets be real roads at midnight to 4am are not the safest in Houston, Texas. As we have one of the biggest drinking and driving record in the States.

So I tip my hat off to you The Revaire for making us a priority. To make us feel like part of the team. We appreciate you and thank you. And side note, lets see if we can make this breakdown on Monday a thing. For our safety. PLEASE!

working with other boss ladies

When a mother who works in the interior design field puts together her daughter's wedding, it's headed in an amazing trajectory.  Cherry of The Longoria Collection was a hands on creative that we absolutely loved collaborating with.  To see her mull over every detail made me have such an appreciation for all creatives.  I forget how we work, as I am always in the thick of it all.  Thank you Cherry for your trust, creating your vision was a blast.  Hands down on of my favorite intimate weddings we have created in a while.

Here are some cell phone shots, as I just can't wait for the professional ones! But when those do come, you'll find them in our Gallery page, so keep an eye out!

Want to enjoy some Endless Summer fun!! Stay tuned for some fun workshops as we take a much needed break from weddings and spread a little love to our creatives.  We are pairing up with some of Houston's finest to create combination workshops as well as some flower design workshops.  Due to the overwhelming response to our previous workshops, we are chomping at the bit to make create something fun for you all.

where do I even begin

What a whirl wind of events this Spring time has brought me. And we made it out alive!! And to think, this past weekend was my first weekend off since January! Yes!!! It's true.  At times I thought I might loose my mind and at other times I thought I was a worrier princess.  :-)  But when it all slowed down and really got a chance to reflect, all I thought was WOW! what an amazing life I have.

I have an amazing career, clients, friends, vendors and new employee that joined me for the ride. I am one lucky lady.  And will gladly say that 'lucky' only because I have worked my tail off to make it all happen.   SO I know I have been so far behind, but there is so much to catch you up on.

First, let me show you this beauty.  Deim & Gary were one of the kindest, trusting couples I had.  Their willingness to allow me to work my magic was a welcome change. (Ladies/Gentleman, my number one piece of advice to any one getting married or throwing an event: HERE IT IS: choose a vendor you love, and let them do what they love.  I promise it pays off.) Here is what we created for this sweet, beautiful, kind couple.

oh my!

How amazing is this sneak peak of a recent wedding we did in Brennan's of Houston?  This photographer has slowly made her mark in the Houston wedding scene and I have absolutely loved watching her business grow.  She has the most amazing, feminine eye that captures the bashful, hearts shooting out of her eyes, in love, gushy side of a woman that no man can capture.  She's a gem for the wedding community and only hope more of my brides book her before she is fully booked for her 2016 season.  Go take a look at more of her work HERE.

this past weekend

We felt so fortunate to have had this past weekend full of the two of the most amazing events.  An intimate wedding at Brennan's of Houston and then followed by a wonderful in-home workshop.  Today I'm sharing with you the pictures of this adorable, fun, playful workshop we had  for a group of high-school graduates.

I had to take a moment in the middle of teaching this class to soak it all in.  These girls are embarking on the adventure of a life time and they have NO clue.  I remember those days when we were all hopping around from graduation party to graduation party with out any idea of what the future held.   And I distinctly remember seeing all the mother's having this look that I now finally understand.  It was the one I had, the one where we are so overjoyed and filled with anticipation of their innocence and their future.

These girls were just so stinking ADORABLE!!! I loved every second of our time together and only hope they learned a little something about flowers and flower design.  Thank you Jennifer for allowing me into your families home and trusting me to teach those bubbly girls a little something creative.  I can't wait for many more in the near future!

allie & adam

After several days of rain, Houston skies opened up and gave us one of the most gorgeous days we have had this year.  And it couldn't have happened at a better moment that to make this day just perfect for the sweetest of couples!

Allie has been the sweetest bride to work with and has truly trusted that our design capabilities would come together with her vision to create something she would love.  Her heart was full of love and her mother was exactly the same.  Super gracious, polite, trusting and truly a gem of a client.  They are dream clients and I could't have been more excited to have been chosen as their flower designer!

We are super thrilled to share some of the first pictures released by their photographer.  She and her hubby look like they could explode in hearts and sunshine.  We loved worked with them and only hope that they will have yearly anniversary parties that we can be a part of.

FLORESCENCE

What amazingly fun news I received today.  I got invited to take part of one of the most gorgeous and prestigious floral events I have ever been to, Florescence, a national competitive Houston flower show sanctioned by the Garden Club of America.

The purpose of a flower show is threefold: to set standards of artistic and horticultural excellence; to broaden knowledge of horticulture, floral design, conservation, photography and other related areas; and to share the beauty of a show with fellow club members and with the public.

The Garden Club of America Flower Show and Judging Guide, 2014 Edition

For the last 10 years I have looked forward to this biennial event,  I attended eagerly to see the amazing designs and the gorgeously crafted botanical specimens.  It is one of the most gorgeous things that I have seen and incredibly underrated.  If it weren't for one of my co-worker many years ago introducing me to the event, I would have never known.  So in effort to bring attention to this gorgeous event I here write to introduce you to Florescence.  And the images are all images I took of the event several years back.  Meanwhile dreaming of the one day I would get a chance to be involved.  And the day finally arrived!! Eek!

top 5 favorites

I very frequently get asked: What's your favorite flower?  Here is my top 5, and reasons they each have a place in my heart.

5. Flowering Branches

Not technically one flower as there are many blooming branches, but on my! These bad boys are just a mystical and romantic flower.  Combining the masculinity of the wood element of a branch and the soft and feminine element of the bloom, the blooming brach has the best of both worlds. A little tricky to use in bouquets, but can be used in all different sized arrangements and particularly by themselves in a large vase is my fav.  Pictured bellow is a flowering Quince branch.

4. Tulip

I recently fell in love with the parrot tulip, if you don't know her give her a quick Pinterest search, you will be happy you did.  But all her sisters and brothers, the California tulip, French Tulip, feathered tulips and a many large variety of other tulips are just as divine.  A favor them alone in a vase or in larger arrangements to give a soft hanging feel.

3. Garden Rose

Oh this guy.  She's had a bit of a comeback in the past couple years after some high-end floral designers decided to bring them back.  Thank God! With dozens of varieties and sizes, from spray roses to full size blooms the garden rose is a British classic.  Romantic, soft, and a year around pleasure.  Perfect in a bouquet or a centerpiece this guy is a keeper.

2. Ranunculus

This delicate gem is truly like no other.  The variety of such soft billowy colors and sharp bright ones is something of the likes of a Dutch Master's painting.  Completely out of this world.  I love to work with these in bride's bouquets and smaller intimate table arrangements as their dainty size can unfortunately get lost in larger arrangements.  Available all year around

1. Peony

This insane flower is just as beautiful as it gets.  The fragrance, the petal count and the variety of colors is why this one wins the #1 place.  It has such a gorgeous metamorphosis from a tall ball the size of a large marble to a full bloom in the size of a grapefruit, it truly is one of natures true beauties.  Only down side, it's only available two times a year, November-December & May-June.  (Sometimes if the season has been amazing those dates extend to other months)

the flower workshop

Here's the one I created ya'll! This one was the guiding light for our 17 attendees and it must have worked because they rocked it.  I had such a blast teaching a little of what is my life's passion and I loved every second of it.  We are definitely in the works for our next one and will make sure all of you Houston folks will get a chance to come play with flowers!
